2016 Metrics That Matter: Increased Focus on Endpoints, Cloud and Security

The two most transformative trends impacting IT service providers (ITSPs) are endpoint growth and demand for security services. This insight is based on responses from more than 1,100 ITSPs who were part of the 2016 IT Service Provider Benchmarking (Metrics that Matter) Survey, conducted by Decision Tree Labs in October 2015 on behalf of Autotask.

This is the third year we have conducted the survey and a lot has changed in the channel during that time. For example, today’s business clients want to achieve greater productivity and own less infrastructure. They are looking to ITSPs to help them manage increasingly extended networks enabled by a growing number of endpoints.

Some of the top takeaways from this year’s survey include: 

  • More than half of survey participants (55%) said endpoint management is their number one IT service driving revenue 
  • 70% said endpoint security is their top-grossing security service
  • 80% of ITSPs rely on cloud delivery to effectively manage and secure endpoints

Further, the overall channel outlook in 2016 is optimistic with seven out of 10 surveyed forecasting revenue growth, and eight out of 10 plan to hire.

93% of respondents reported measuring at least some metrics, which means ITSPs will be in a good position to adjust resource utilization and improve key areas to match changing client needs. If they can address core service delivery issues around endpoint management and security based on what the metrics tell them, their businesses can grow both revenues and profits.
