A Day in the Life of an ITSP at CommLive 2017

Let me start by saying I could never do this experience justice by writing about it. You really do need to attend to understand how incredible it is and the value you get in 3 days. To give you a feel for it, here’s a quick download of how I spent my time (well spent, might I add) at this year’s CommLive. 

Saturday
I’m an early bird, not only do I take advantage of getting the best conference price by registering early, I get there early. Saturday is when I visit with Autotask team members and have some personal one-on-one time with other ITSPs before the jam-packed event schedule begins. I stopped by the Autotask Workplace™ Partner Advisory dinner before ending the day with some fun and awesome peer conversation in the Diplomat lobby bar.

Sunday
Conferences shouldn’t be all work and no play. I took advantage of some free time to visit the beach and the Diplomat pool. It was a relaxing few hours before attending the Autotask Workplace and PSA Product Advisory Board meetings. These meetings are an important part of my commitment to the Autotask team. 

After that it was straight to the welcome reception inside the Solution Showcase. There were more than 50 vendors, some of which were completely new to me.  

Monday
Game time! The morning started with Autotask executive keynotes. After a short networking break, Luis Giraldo, VP of Product for ITGlue schooled us on the 9 Non- Negotiables to Scaling your MSP Business.  Luis is a former MSP and I learned a ton from his presentation.  

Then, drumroll please! President Bill Clinton came on stage for his keynote.  This was perhaps the best keynote speech I’ve ever heard at any conference I’ve attended.  My major takeaway: President Clinton said small business owners are always under fire and their challenge is to handle it while never losing sight of ‘the goal.’ As an ITSP, I could totally relate and I’m now trying to keep ‘the goal’ top of mind.

After some awesome sessions, my brain was in overload mode, so it was nice to wind down at the “Neon Jungle” Community Networking night. Great music, food and entertainment made for a fun way to end the day.  

Tuesday
I attended Peter Sheahan’s keynote on Moving Beyond the Competition and Creating More Value to Become the Obvious Choice for prospective customers.  I was very excited for this keynote as it’s becoming harder and harder to differentiate. 

We had another terrific afternoon of Peer Forums (look for my blog about these forums coming soon), with more idea sharing and great business-to-business interaction. Some attendees said these tracks were the highlight of their event!  

My Wrap-up
I wait for CommLive all year, and it goes by fast. Having attended them for the past 10 years, I can tell you this was by far the best. There is so much planning for an event like this, I truly appreciate everything the Autotask team does to make it a success. 

It’s hard to put into words the value of the experience. The keynotes, peer forums, breakouts and networking with both the Autotask team and other ITSPs was just priceless to my business. 

This year I brought 2 of my team members with me and they were blown away. Of course, we’re already looking forward to CommLive 2018! In fact, you can already register for it here.
