Here’s a look at what’s happening this week in the world of ITSPs, MSPs and Enterprise IT departments.

FastCompany: How the Internet of Things is Changing Work
By David Lumb

The Internet of Things (IoT) is an exciting concept, a future where "billions of things are talking to each other," as technology consulting company SAP describes it. We’ve seen gadgets and domestic appliances connect to the Internet and ping your smartphone with info, but it’s becoming more clear that these toys are a prelude to a vastly connected world. And yet, we spend most of our day at work. Here’s how technologists think the world of IoT will change the workplace—and how it’s already changing how we do business today.

CIO: CIOs must overcome CEOs’ unclear strategy to drive digital transformations
By Clint Boulton

Rising demand for digital experiences will force companies to accelerate the pace of initiatives intended to capture customers in 2016, according to a survey of 947 business and IT executives polled by Forrester Research. But as CIOs revamp their IT systems and processes to meet these expectations, they will have to overcome the lack of clear strategies articulated by the top brass. "What we're seeing is that everyone is focused on digital strategy and transformation," Sharyn Leaver, Forrester's group practice director for CIOs, told "But the technology needs to be paired with a strong understanding of what customers want."

MSPmentor: MSPs: Moving Small Businesses to the Cloud
By Michael Brown

Many MSPs work to target larger companies or major public sector groups such as local or state governments. But you may be missing out on a potentially lucrative faction. Small businesses are an important market for MSPs looking to provide cloud services such as cloud-based file sharing. Most small businesses don’t have the room for large internal IT support needed to use other computer applications. Cloud services provide them with an easy-to-use platform that can be used to satisfy just about any IT need a small business would have.

Channelnomics: Avnet launches cloud marketplace in effort to push partner cloud-first adoption
By Jessica Meek

Avnet has today released its Avnet Cloud Marketplace, which it claims is "unique" within the distribution sector. But with enthusiasm for cloud among solution providers still up for debate, the distributor's efforts to enable a one-stop cloud shop for its partners may need more than just a new marketplace to get momentum going. The aim of the new marketplace, according to Avnet, is for partners in the U.S. and Canada to offer cloud-based services through consumption-based and subscription-based models.

CIO: IT leaders plan to further embrace cloud in 2016
By Matt Kapko

The majority of CIOs plan to foster a cloud-first strategy for enterprise applications next year, according to a new survey from Bitglass. The "cloud access security broker" conducted its survey of nearly 100 CIOs and IT leaders at the Gartner Symposium IT Expo last month, and it released the findings today. Half of the respondents reported cost savings in 2015 as a result of using SaaS applications, such as Microsoft's Office 365 and Google for Work, but they also continue to face security challenges.
