Why You Should Pursue an IT Job in 2016

March 28, 2016

According to our Metrics that Matter survey, 80% of ITSPs plan on hiring this year. On top of that, the IT sector added 152,000 new jobs to the field in 2015 alone. Needless to say, it’s a thriving time in the IT industry for the 1,870,000 students who will be graduating from college this spring, many of whom will be entering the job market and looking to pursue a career in IT.

As ITSPs look to build their teams and recent grads are on the hunt for their dream IT job, here is some notable news about hiring in the IT industry:

  • Staffing is up around service delivery: With client renewal rates going strong – a reported 75% of ITSPs have renewal rates of 80% or higher – companies need a skilled team to maintain these numbers. One of the top reasons renewal rates are rising is improved customer service levels, something that can’t be achieved without a great IT team. Not only do ITSPs need IT experts to keep their current clients happy, but also to continue to offer the best support to attract more customers.
  • Companies are looking to hire across specialties: The IT industry is complex with a huge range of occupations. Luckily, the industry is hiring across the board. Our Metrics that Matter survey reports that 65% of ITSPs are hiring for the service desk, 32% are hiring in sales and 23% are hiring for projects. These numbers reflect the upward demand for managed services and cloud-based services and the need to best support these areas.

With business going strong, ITSPs have a great opportunity to add to their service offerings and build a skilled IT department. Whether you are a recent grad looking for an entry level role, or an IT executive, the time is right to explore job opportunities in the field.
