Digital Advertising 101 - Search Engine Optimization: If You Make it Search-Friendly, They Will Come

August 15, 2017

This blog is part of a series. See the second blog, Digital Advertising 101 - Paid Search: Advertising that Pays in Leads - Yes, For Real here.

It seems simple: you have a website, eager sales folks, great products and services and so you should be rolling in leads. What do you do when that’s not exactly happening? Andy Groller, Vice President, Digital Strategy at digital marketing agency, DragonSearch, shares his expert advice to help you take advantage of the best kept marketing secret—search engine optimization, or SEO.

You may not have unlimited marketing funds so here are some easy ways to maximize your web presence and create a strong digital footprint so when people search for the services you provide, you’re first in the results or very close to the top.

Sounds too good to be true, but business directory listings on the web are a HUGE opportunity for you to build your digital footprint. Search engines query these first.

Directories that are important include:
  • Google My Business
  • Bing Places for Business
  • Yelp
  • Chambers of Commerce
  • Business Associations
Take the time to complete a detailed profile in these listings and directories and be sure the information is accurate and up-to-date. Because it matters a lot—$10.3 billion worth of potential sales are lost due to wrong, missing or incomplete local business information.

Once you’ve thoroughly updated your profiles on these sites, check out your social media presence to make sure it’s representing your brand. Channels that you want to have a presence on are Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube (great place for customer videos and product tutorials) and Twitter. It’s worth your time to engage with your audience on these channels on a regular basis as it can positively impact your search engine rankings.
